Jeremy and I went to Charlottesville, Virginia a few weekends ago to meet a bunch of our wedding vendors.  I had my hair and makeup trial in the morning, then we went to Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards for our wedding menu tasting and last (but not least) we had our cake tasting with Mahlia Creations.  Jeremy and I always knew we wanted to get married at Pippin Hill.  We spent so much time there when Jeremy was completing his MBA at Darden in Charlottesville.  It wasn’t until we got engaged and I wanted to book Pippin Hill for our wedding venue, that I realized how extremely popular Pippin Hill is.  Bride’s Magazine listed Pippin Hill as one of the top 50 most beautiful wedding venues in the U.S.  I mean, obviously I’m a little biased, but I agree with Brides Magazine!  Pippin Hill is absolutely gorgeous.  We got engaged in December 2014 and I booked Pippin Hill in February 2015. By the time I had booked our June 2016 wedding date (only 2 months after we had gotten engaged) we had booked the last Saturday in spring/summer 2016!  I mean that is just insane!  Pippin Hill is not only a breathtaking venue, the food is superb.

Our wedding menu tasting was incredible.  We started with a fromagerie plate and seven passed hors d’oeuvres:

  1. Fried Green Tomato, Pimento Cheese
  2. Sungold Tomato, Warm Burrata, Crostini
  3. Chilled Lobster, Dill, Sea Salt Potato Chip
  4. Chesapeake Bay Crab Cake, Calabrian Chile, Micro Shungiku
  5. Organic Beef Tartare, Gochujang, Puffed Tortilla
  6. Griddled Croque Monsieur, Merlot-Onion Marmalade
  7. Tempura Chincoteague Oysters, Sambal, Kewpie

Second we tried two first courses:

  1. Baby Romaine and Truffle Salad
  2. Salad of Heirloom Tomatoes

Then we tried two options for chef composed duets:

  1. Aged beef strip loin and Chesapeake crab cake
  2. Roasted tenderloin of beef and main lobster tail

Last but not least we tried the lemongrass beignets with sea salt caramel for a late night snack.  After Pippin Hill we went and tried all our options for our wedding cake.  I cannot wait to reveal what our final menu and wedding cake flavors will be!  I cannot believe I’ll be getting married in less than 3 months!

xx,

Lauren

I just stumbled upon your blog and this post made me smile. I got married at Pippin Hill in 2012. It’s amazing to see the number of Pippin Hill brides grow every year! We signed our contract when it was just framing on a hill of red dirt!

Anita made our cake as well and it was fantastic.

    Happy planning!
